An experimental map that tries to offer capturable tech buildings (Radar Dome & Service Depot) on a smaller map with less eco.
However, Sire deems the current layout unsalvageable. It is uploaded here more as a concept map than a playable one.
Civil Pursuit – Goals and Motivations
1. Experiment in making a smaller map as I tend to make larger maps. I also wanted to try for “low eco” and “no oil derricks.” Needless to say, this didn’t come to pass as the starting spawn as 3 Ore Mines and Oil Derricks exist.
The main reason I frontloaded Ore Mines is because I have no real idea where to place expansions while keeping the map somewhat symmetrical. The current expansion location in the middle is highly competitive as it is very easy to base push to the opposite expansion.
As for Oil Derricks, they encourage early game action and offer an objective for players to fight over. When I make maps, I try to think of objectives for players to handle besides the main one of defeating the opponent.
2. Experiment with adding a capturable Radar Dome and Service Depot on a small map. The idea of this comes from most low-eco maps not really progressing in terms of Tech Level, so I wonder what would happen if players could fight over controlling one. The risk of course is that capturing one becomes a “primary objective” instead of a “secondary objective.” I do not want to provide something that becomes mandatory to win, I much rather present it as a bonus that will help the player, but the player can win in other ways.
