Bastion is a 1v1 map with two fortified bases each of which are complimented by basic defenses as two Advanced Power Plants, two Oil Derricks, and a Radar Dome.
Originally, I was going to call the map, "No Man's Land", with the implication that anything outside of the bases (towns, forests, farmland, innocents, etc) were susceptible to destruction.
As the bases became more and more fleshed out, I decided to go with "Bastion" in reference to the prefab fortifications.
One goal I tried striving for when designing the map was making it look and feel like a Campaign map that was re-purposed for Skirmish/Multiplayer. I did this by making the towns look as lively as possible with features like power lines and roads that connect to outside of the map and even churches complete with cemeteries (using what resources I had at my disposal without having to make/borrow new assets).
One thing I would definitely point out about the map is it's pretty unbalanced in singleplayer Skirmish because the AI doesn't know how to capture un-owned base structures and civilian tech buildings (oil pumps, hospitals, etc). It also has a tendency to build defenses inside of the base; where they would destroy their own walls tried to hit enemies on the opposite side.
Because of these issues, the map is geared more towards Online than Offline (at least until the AI is improved).
